Illusion painting at The BARN.

The birds are singing, the sun is shining and the sunglasses is on! Because now it’s finally spring! And that also means that it’s a bit warmer outside then before, which also means that you can finally start painting outdoors again! Hurray! And that’s exactly what I’ve been up to recently. This time at the restaurant The BARN here in Gothenburg.

The restaurant have a roller shutter window which they pull down when the restaurant is closed. Before it was grey and black (in metal) and a bit worn. It was hard to see that there was the most gorgeous restaurant hidden in there behind that grey wall.

So me and one of the owners Marcus were tossing around some ideas about how we could spice up the facade. We decided that it would look nice if we could paint the roller cover so it looked like wood and then put their logo on. So it would match the rest of the interior. (the whole restaurant is actually and old barn that they tore down i Vara. They used all of the material of that barn to build up this new wonderful restaurant, and named it simply, The BARN). We both got excited about the idea! So then it was just for me to buy some paint, get my brushes and get to work! :)

And here are some pictures of the making process:

The key is to do a proper foundation for the paint to last as long as possible and in all kind of weathers. Then I worked with different layers of colors to bring out the shades in the “wood”. And then when that was done, to painted their logo. Et voila!

I love to get this kind of odd missions! And to paint of course! and the staff at The BARN are just the sweetest so it has been a really great time working here <3

And it turned out really nice in the end or what do you think? :)

After making this “mural” we thought that the grey metal box on the top looked a bit boring. So after a few weeks I picked up my brushes again and painted that so it looked like wood as well.

It looked like this.

Tadaa! And it’s done! I must admit that it looks much nicer now :) Especially combined with the owner Marcus in the front, sitting in an old rocking chair and with his cute little straw hat!

Thank you so much for lovely days The BARN! Next time we meet I won’t be outdoor painting. I’ll sit inside at the restaurant and enjoy tasty burgers and maybe a beer instead ;)
