Mural painting – “How to paint a door”
We just finished a small part of the mural on Pinchos and E.K handels‘s backyard.
We’ve made/painted a door! Wihoo! Once the scaffolding is up, hopefully tomorrow) we will start to paint the rest of the wall, and begin by making four windows. The idea is that the big, grey concrete wall will look like a house eventually. Or a house wall, rather, with a door and four windows (and maybe give the facade a different color).
It’s the first time I paint on plaster. Yes, it’s the first time I add plaster on a wall as well! (We needed to smooth the wall with a layer of plaster before we got started. So we would have a smoother surface to paint all tiny, tiny details on.) Lucky for me I have such a handy mother who teaches me everything she can! (including how to add plaster on a wall) :) Its a very different kind of surface to paint on compared with other murals that I’ve done before. When you paint on plaster, the color dries incredibly fast! So you have to work really quickly and paint a lot of layers on top of each other to get the right type of shades and colors in the motif. If you compare with oil paint for example, that takes several days before it begins to dry. But I learn something new everyday! That’s the beauty of it!
It took a little bit longer than we thought, but now the door is finally finished! :)
And here is the result:
(Before vs. after)
And here are some pictures from the making process.
That didn’t turn out that bad, huh? :)
And tomorrow we will prepare everything and continue to paint the rest of the wall!
I will be in my hometown, Uddevalla working almost for a whole week now. Together with my wonderful mother and partner in crime, Annika Wieslander <3
And we will start by painting those windows!
(4 of them, about there)
Hope to see you there!
